[OKAY...This will be the worst example of my writing skills, but its been bugging me and I needed to write it. I mean, if you want to reply, I have no objections. And I hat no idea where to put it. -shrug-]
After a long day at work, Sara came home, greeted by her 10-year-old border collie, Mia, right before she even crossed the threshold. A soft chuckle escaped her as she bent down and hugged the black-and-white dog. “Been a good girl while I was gone?” She asked before standing back up, knees popping uncomfortably as she did so. “We’ll go for a walk later, okay?”
Looking from the woman to the kitchen, Mia barked and headed there, nails clicking against the hard floor. After food was poured into the dish and Sara left to take a shower, Mia downed her supper and sat by the door, patiently waiting for Sara to finish. The small house hadn’t changed much in the years the two lived there. Despite the fact her owner had a busy job as an ASPCA officer Mia was content with their life. It was like this for a while now. It was uncommon for Sara to get off work so late, and it was their little daily routine. Sara came home, fed the dog, left to take a shower, and then they would go on a short walk around the block. Simple as that.
The opening of a door in the hallway meant the approach of Sara and Mia grew excited once again. She ran up to Sara and circled around her a couple of times before sitting down and letting the leash be clipped to her collar.
---
Throughout the walk, Sara paused a lot and looked behind her, having the nagging feeling that they were being followed. Mia felt Sara’s uneasiness and pulled on the leash to get her moving again.
“How about we cut this walk short, Mia?” Sara asked, continuing forward. After five more minutes, Sara jerked around and stared up at the ugliest man she had ever seen. She dropped Mia’s leash and instinctively, reached for her non existent gun, only now realizing that she left it back at home.
“Wazz a pretty lady like you walkin’ all alone at night?” he asked, smiling a bit to reveal yellowing teeth. “Hows ’bout I walks you home?”
“I’m fine.” Sara said, backing up, but he was quick and her wrists where in his grasp before she could turn and run. “Mia, go.”
The border collie was about to lunge when she was sent off. With a quick glance at Sara she ran for it. ‘How. Does. She. Expect. Me. To. Find. Help?’ She turned the corner and ran down the sidewalk. ‘I’m getting too old for this.’ After a few minutes of just running, Mia stopped, panting. A distant scream got her back up and running again. ‘I should’ve stayed, damn it.’ She crossed the street and ran another block before nearly running into some unfortunate human.
Mia skidded to a stop and looked up, only now realizing who it was. It had been /years/ since she last saw him. ‘That’s cliché… But oh my god!’ She bounded around Kyle, barking like mad until jumping up and placing her paws on his stomach. ‘Come one, let’s go, Sara’s in trouble!’ Mia jumped back down and eyed the man. He looked different, but not. And he didn’t smell like all the animals like Sara did when she got home from work. But that was for another time to investigate.
