The ground was cold and wet, the noise of the street echoed into the dark alley between the two tall, brick buildings, making things sound even louder in the cat's pounding ears. A slight breeze ruffled his fur and blew a discarded newspaper away, scattering about the pages. People....they were talking, but he was too hurt too look up and see them. His head felt too heavy, the muscles in his neck not wanting to cooperate. He drew another shagged breath and twitched his tail, thinking about how he ended up here.
The day started out pretty normal, Felix was stretched along the backside of the couch, his favorite place for thirteen years straight. His human passed and waved hello, getting her usual bowl of cereal. As soon as the fridge open, the long haired cat was right at her ankles, purring and meowing for a small treat. And then the bowl was there with a little bit of milk. It was gone soon enough and now the white cat sat at the opposite end of the table, looking at the back of the cereal box. Then the human went to work and said her 'boyfriend' would be over soon.
A few hours passed and Felix was sprawled out against the back of the couch, dreaming of that annoying mouse that always got away. just when he was going to pounced, he was pulled up by the scruff of the neck and many sharp blows came. He was confused and fought back, but the old cat's joints weren't what they used to be and it wasn't long until the blows got harder and it was impossible to fight any longer. everything went dark and the next thing he knew he was laying against the concrete in pain.

Johnathan parked on the side of the road once he made it there. Unfortunately, nobody was there by the cat, but he saw the animal. He didn't wait for Sara to get out, getting himself out and walking toward the cat, putting the car keys in his pocket. He needed to make sure the cat was even alive, and how bad it was hurt. He knelt down, lightly setting a hand on it's side, feeling the breaths it took. Slowly and lightly he moved a hand over the felines fur to give some comfort, and for a second he just sat there, staring at the poor animal. Anger and sadness filled him, but he stayed completely still.

A hand, a comforting hand, stroked his fur and with all the strength he could muster attempted to roll onto his stomach. After a few tries and managed to to so, but was unable to stay still. His body insisted on leaning to the left. With his head to the side he looked up at Johnathan and let out a pathetic meow before falling back over onto his side.
Sara walked up behind him, having not seen anyone around to give information. She looked down at the cat and almost immediately anger and sadness filled her. "There's no one here." She said, voice calm.

Johnathan lightly stroked the cat once more. He nodded. "Nobody." He said. "Nobody at all."He looked at her. "We have to get him back to the vet." He said, looking back at the cat. He slowly and gently lifted the cat from the ground with both hands. "The investigation can wait till after he has been treated." He stood up straight. "Are you driving back or me?"

Felix let out a soft mew as he was picked up, but made no objections. She looked down at the ground when he saw a hand gently handle his tag. Curious, he sniffed it before licking the hand and meowing again.
"'Felix' it's all it says." Sara said before letting the cat lick her hand a moment longer before taking it back. "I can drive." She said.

Johnathan sighed. "Well, Felix, you'll be okay." He told the cat. He assumed it was the cat's name. He nodded at Sara. "Alright." He said, taking the keys from his pocket and handing them to her before going to the car and getting in, setting the cat lightly on his lap. "Nobody will hurt you now."

Sara took the keys and walked to the car, getting into the drivers side and started it. Once everyone was settled she headed back to the ASPCA after noting the vet that they were bringing in a badly injured cat VIA radio.
After a moment, he began to purr, one of his ears twitched at the sound of his name and he mewed again. Johnathan's lap was much warmer and much more comfortable than the concrete.

Johnathan watched Felix. He stroked him lightly, smiling some at the purrs. The way these animals could be so trusting of a human after those sorts of things amazed him. He didn't know what exactly had been done, but he knew it was bad. "Whoever did this will not get away." He muttered.

Felix purred a little louder and shifted a little, making himself comfortable. He liked this human, for his intentions were good. His blue eyes stared at Sara, watching her drive. He figured her intentions were good, too and he deemed himself rescued. Carefull her 'kneaded the dough' on Johnathan's knee, trying his best to keep his claws sheathed.
"No, they wont." Sara said, keeping her eyes on the road. Soon enough they were at the ASPCA and she parked the car and got out.

Johnathan smiled as he watched the cat. "I really don't know how anyone could do this to an animal." He said. "But that's why we're on the side we're on. We couldn't do that." He continued to pet the cat softly. He lightly scratched under the cat's chin, smiling at him some. "I'm guessing he'll end up staying at the shelter." He said. He got out once they arrived, still holding the cat. He walked up to a door that said 'Staff Only' And unlocked it, opening the door, which brought them straight into the animal hospital.

After a moment, Sara followed. She wanted to know how badly the cat was injured before going back to the investigation.
Felix shifted uncomfortably, and looked around the new scenery change. It was the vets and he didn't like it. Even if he knew that they were there to help.

Johnathan held Felix, and finding an available vet, he lightly set Felix on one of the examination tables. He sighed. "I don't know much about what happened to him. He was just dropped in some alley." He said with a sigh.

The cat was patient as he was looked over, though he flinched a lot when the vet did the physical. "His pupils are dilated, and the way he leans to the left makes me wonder if he suffered brain damage." She said and picked Felix up. "I'm going to take him for some x-rays." She said and left the room.
Sara watched from the back of the room. When the vet took him into the back she approached Johnathan. "hopefully it's nothing too serious. And we'll find him. We'll find the one who did this to Felix."

Johnathan watched, petting the cat to try and comfort him. He nodded at the vet. "Alright." He said to her. He looked at Sara. "I won't close the case until he is found and put in jail." He stated. "There is no excuse for doing that to an animal."

"No there isn't." Sara said and looked up when the vet came back with the cat. "How is he/" She asked.
"Not good." The vet said and put him back in the table."he has quite a bit of internal bruising and a fractured hip. Not only that but he has some head trauma as well." The vet paused. "He isn't young, either."
