Dogs barking echoed over the large area. Small dogs and big dogs. Medium szed dogs too. They were all here. Keptin this one area of the shelter. Currently, a tall green eyed man walked down the rows of dog kennels, a young pitt bull following behind him on a leash. Which wasn't held tight by the man either. The glass door was opened after being unlocked, and the dog walked in, tail and ears down. She was here again, returned after two weeks.
"It's okay girl. You'll find a home some day." The older officer said, petting her before taking the leash off. "You'll find a wonderful home, with someone who loves you. We know you will. You just have to be patient. I just have to be patient." The grey haired man sighed, taking a treat from the pocket on his uniform shirt. He only had one or two treats with him at a time. He offered it, and the dog took the treat. She wagged her tail for a few seconds, but it didn't last.
"Good news though, Ami." He added to the dog as he stood up. "We got your owner in jail now." He told her with a smile, shutting the door. He locked it, the looked around with another sigh.

Often taking up the job of writing down things, Sara was almost always with a clipboard in hand, recording case files, updates and such. It was a job no one really took a liking to, other than Sara. The barking and howling of the dogs didn't phase her one bit, as she looked down at the piece of paper. What did bring her out of it was when Johnathan spoke. "Oh hello, Johnathan." She said and tucked the clipboard under her arm. "how are you today?"

Johnathan looked up from the dog as Sara spoke. The dog sat by the door, starin up at him. When he looked away, the dogs perked ears dropped, and she laid down and curled up with her back against the glass. Johnathan sighed. "I'm fine." He said, glancing at the dog again. "But if dogs could cry, Ami would be." Though the dog had not been officially named Ami, not even the new owners had thought of a name as they adopted her. Johnathan had brought her in the first time, but the vet had been rushed and hadn't given him a chance to give the dog a name. He looked back at Sara. "How are you?"

At the name, she glanced into the kennel and saw the dog curled up against the glass. "Poor girl." Sara muttered and looked back at Johnathan. "Pit Bulls have a bad reputation." She said. They were a very hard breed to adopt out. Pits weren't as vicious as their reputation said, only as vicious as the owners themselves. "I'm fine, thanks."

Johnathan sighed, taking a pen from his other shirt pocket, writing the name 'Ami' on the paper on the door. He sighed. "Too bad of a reputation. I can't believe how long they have to stay here, but I'm glad we don't put them down for it." He said. The dog looked up at him, her ears back. "I shouldn't, but I am thinking of just adopting her myself. This is the third time she has been returned to us."

"There's no reason to kill a dog just because they can't be adopted out as easily as some." Sara said, shifting her weight. "And if you don't, there is someone who will, they just have to cross paths first." She added.

Johnathan nodded. "No reason at all." He sighed, looking at her. "I will. She shouldn't have to wait so long." He said, stepping away from the kennel. "After today." He then sighed. "So, you been busy today?"

"Not very. Just catching up on some paperwork" Sara said and smiled. "She'll be very happy with you." The clipboard stashed under her arm was back out again as she wrote a few more things down. "I adopted a dog here once. She was a really good dog."

Johnathan nodded. "I do my paperwork at home." He said. "And yeah, these dogs are great. We just.. can't adopt them all." He sighed. His phone rang and he leaned against an empty kennel as he answered it and spoke to the other person.

When his phone rang, Sara thought about leaving but a gut feeling told her to stay. She looked down at the paper and filled the rest of it out as Johnathan talked.

"Are you serious?" Johnathan was staring at nothing, eyes wide. He groaned, then hung up. "Come on." He said to Sara. "We got ourselves another case." He told her, starting to walk toward the front.

His sudden tone made her look up, and nodded. "Alright." She tucked the clipboard back under her arm and followed Johnathan. "What's the case?"

"Someone just saw a guy dump an injured cat in an alley outside their apartment building." Johnathan said. "They said they haven't gone too close to the cat, but it wasn't moving too much from what they could see." He went outside, getting into one of the cars.

Before she left, Sara put up her clipboard and then followed Johnathan to his car, getting into the passenger side. "Did they say where they guy went?"

Johnathan shook his head. "No." He said. "They just said he ran off after dropping the cat there. They never even saw his face. They said they'd be there, so maybe we can get more details there, though the cat is the priority."
